PsEyeDream #27 – Skybound Reverie
Ever dreamt of floating without falling? Of seeing the sky not from the ground, but from within it? That’s what Skybound Reverie feels like. It’s not just an eye, it’s a window stitched into the sky, right at the intersection of sleep and memory.
The iris glows in radiant teal and soft turquoise gradients, rippling outward like sunlight captured in a pool of thought. At the centre, the pupil is surrounded by stardust, as if it’s looking out over a miniature universe that exists inside the eye. You get the sense it’s watching more than it’s being watched. It’s calm. Patient. Like a guardian of dreams we’ve forgotten we once had.
Floating around the eye are gentle clouds and pastel orbs, surreal and playful. One cloud peeks out like a whisper of yesterday’s memory; a small bird drifts through a purple gradient sky, as though the eye itself might lift off and follow it. There’s a softness to the background, dreamy washes of pale rose and lavender that dissolve into each other like thoughts before sleep.
The eyelid's shape is sharp at the corners, giving contrast to the soft floating forms. It feels precise but never cold. Lashes extend delicately, like the roots of thought or the edges of a dream not quite ready to fade. Every colour here speaks in a hush minty blues, peachy highlights, shadowy violets. All contributing to a kind of hush that pulls you in.
This isn’t just surrealism, it’s emotional surrealism. The kind that makes your heart slow down. Makes you feel like you’re staring out of someone else’s imagination but recognising it as your own.
And in that gaze, everything floats. Time, thought, curiosity, the weight of the day... all untethered. It’s the kind of piece that doesn’t beg to be understood, only felt. You don’t need to know what it means. Just let it drift around in your head awhile.
Artist’s Note:
This one came to life on a day I felt mentally weightless. It’s weird to say, but I remember thinking, “What if thoughts had clouds?” That was the start. I layered the softness first, then added the sharp eye lines to give it contrast. I didn’t plan much, just flowed with the vibe. Honestly, the title came to me after the art was finished. ‘Skybound Reverie’ just felt like the right fit. Like a mental flightpath with no destination. I hope it lifts you, even a little.
